Malawi: China Puts Its Mark On Malawi
Lilongwe — Driving through Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, it is difficult to miss the imposing building under construction in the city centre.
It’s the country’s first five-star hotel, 90 million dollars worth of well-appointed rooms, a state-of-the-art conference centre and 14 opulent presidential suites.
The hotel is being built by the Shanghai Construction Company, a Chinese firm, and is one of numerous projects funded in line with a pledge of 260 million dollars of concessionary loans, grant and aid from China to Malawi to support development, including infrastructure.

Total of 122 Ele Tusks Seized in Vietnam!
Elephant tusks confiscated from a warehouse in the northern province of Quang Ninh Monday.
Police in the northern Quang Ninh Province on Monday seized 122 elephant tusks from the warehouse of Hung Vuong Limited, a company based in Mong Cai City, Dan Tri reported.

Zimbabwe: Rangers Kill Two Poachers
PARKS rangers have shot and killed two poachers in Chaizarira National Park in Binga during a shoot out.
The rangers recovered three Lee-Enfield rifles, 76 rounds of 303 ammunition, one pair of elephant tusks and some fresh elephant meat. Some of the poachers fled. The bodies of the unidentified poachers, suspected to have come from the Sinamuchembo communal lands in neighbouring Gokwe, have since been taken to the mortuary at Binga Hospital. Parks public relations manager, Ms Caroline Washaya-Moyo, last week gave details of the battle.
"A ranger manning the entrance to the park heard two gun shots about 8km to the eastern side of the gate around 4pm and reported to the main office. Our rangers tracked the poachers and had gun contact with them at night, resulting in the death of two poachers and recovery of the guns and ammunition. "Parks is strongly warning poachers and would-be poachers that the authority has taken a zero tolerance attitude towards poaching. We stress that anyone who dares cross into parks territory for the purposes of poaching should be warned that the consequences can be fatal," she said.
Only one elephant has been killed and the authority is still searching the area.

Kenya: KWS Officials Gun Down Rogue Jumbo in Kyuso
Kenya Wildlife Service officers in Kyuso gunned down a rogue elephant that had strayed from the Kora National Park on Saturday. Residents of Kasyongo were treated to a feast of elephant meat before the KWS officials cordoned them off. The residents had reported to Kyuso DC Peter Maina that there was a stray animal destroying food in their farms.
The KWS personnel intervened a day after the media reported Mwingi South MP David Musila saying he will organise his constituents to kill a lion that has killed dozens of livestock in the area.
Musila, an assistant minister in the Defence ministry expressed his disappointment at the slow speed of KWS to take action."I am thinking of asking my fearless Kamba hunters to arm themselves with bows and poisoned arrows and hunt down the lion that had devoured livestock in the area for more than a week now," said Musila adding that he would defend them if arrested.
He said he will ensure that all his constituents get compensation from KWS for the livestock lost. He told the complaints to collect compensation claim forms from his Mwingi office and have them certified by veterinary officers. On Saturday, KWS personnel flew over Kasyongo area in a bid to drive the animals back to Kora National Park, about 50km away.
