Dezember 2021 schlug der Samburu Trust im Norden Kenias Alarm und kontaktierte den Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) sowie den Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) wegen eines verletzten verwaisten Elefanten. Er schien eine schreckliche Tortur durchgemacht zu haben: Seine Mutter war aufgrund eines Mensch-Wildtier-Konflikts get\u00f6tet worden, und er selbst wurde erst f\u00fcnf Tage sp\u00e4ter mit einer Verletzung am Hinterteil gefunden, die h\u00f6chstwahrscheinlich durch einen Speer verursacht worden war.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eWlTuc-5b38\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>Wegen der abgelegenen Lage wurde die Rettung mit einem gecharterten Hubschrauber durchgef\u00fchrt. Der Pilot flog direkt zu der Stelle, an der die Scouts des Samburu Trust mit dem Kalb warteten. Kaum war der Helikopter gelandet, packten alle mit an, um die kostbare Fracht sicher an Bord zu hieven. Einige Keeper brachten das Kalb zu einem frisch hergerichteten Stall \u2013 seinem neuen Schlafzimmer. Es war extra f\u00fcr ihn mit viel geschnittenem Gr\u00fcn und weichem Heu vorbereitet worden. In der ersten Nacht schlief der Kleine tief und fest und war zweifellos erleichtert, endlich an einem sicheren Ort zu sein. Er muss aber schlimme Dinge erlebt haben, bevor er gerettet wurde: Er ist sehr schreckhaft und jederzeit bereit zur Flucht. Eine pl\u00f6tzliche Bewegung oder ein lautes Ger\u00e4usch &#8211; und schon rennt er weg! Es deutet jedoch schon einiges auf eine Besserung hin: Er hat sich bereits still und heimlich einige Dummheiten der anderen Waisen angew\u00f6hnt und sich gut mit <strong>Barnoti<\/strong>, <strong>Oldepe<\/strong> und <strong>Rama<\/strong> angefreundet.
